Campus Snacks expands to larger DC community

CampusSnacks has changed its name. The new DCSnacks will now serve not only GW but also the surrounding area.
GW alum Matthew Mandell’s idea for the company was to serve the students, and now he wants to serve the DC community.
His quick delivery business that sells everything from Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie Ice Cream to the Old School DVD is “an alternative to the Chinese and pizza menu I lived on in college,” he said.
The name change is intended to include a broader range of customers, instead of just Colonials. DC Snacks will be available in the Dupont and Logan Circle districts. They are looking to expand into “more residential areas…to post-graduates,” Mandell said.
In-house, the name change has yet to become common.
“We love the little swirly guy, he’s still on our backpacks,” said Mandell of the Campus Snacks logo, which has been removed.
Not only does DC Snacks have a new name, they are also expanding their inventory.
“We’re adding healthier and more organic options.” Some of the other new items include Lindt chocolates, margarita mix, Jones Soda, and “fun stuff,” Mandell said.
Other than food, drinks, and DVDs, DC Snacks is expanding inventory to include magazine sales and even concert tickets.
The growing list of new items has been spurred by student input on the www.dcsnacks.com website and to Mandell directly, who encourages customers to send their suggestions straight to his inbox at matt@dcsnacks.com.
DC Snacks is hoping to double it’s number of orders by May, and by expanding inventory, employees, and adding new gimmicks such as playing local DC bands and GW bands after you hit the “Checkout” button on the website.
Mandell hopes the “facelift” will get the community more involved in DC Snacks.
“Nothing’s changed.” Mandell said. “There’s a lot of potential here.”
