Chat Roulette
Perhaps I am behind the internet by a few weeks, but Chat Roulette has now entered my life. There is a certain amount of trepidation with which I approach this technology. When I approach a stranger in real life, there is an acknowledgment and a nonverbal communication that cannot be replicated online.
This, coupled with the astoundingly fast speed this technology has implemented, is quite a marvel.

We just launched a totally random video chat in English with better design and more features: http://www.blimko.com, we are currently in beta, is already in English and Spanish version with a greater number of features such as Search by gender (male, female or all) and a channel HOT +18.

Chatroulette’s kinda funny. It’s somewhere between an honest, person-to-person, stranger-meets-stranger environment and amateur porn and hookups. The technology has enormous potential though. I wonder if a chatroulette-esque site could be set up for musicians looking for someone to jam with. I’d love a part craigslist, part chatroulette site where I can grab my guitar, go online, and randomly be hooked up with a keyboard player or drummer for an impromptu jam session.
Of course, there’s always lag issues with these sorts of technologies, and anything but perfect real time video would make jamming almost impossible. Still, I’d like to think it’s not too far away.
Also, this is awesome: http://www.buzzfeed.com/akdobbins/ben-folds-endmost-chatroulette-ode .
